On Wednesday 2nd November 2022, we had the pleasure of welcoming a very special guest to Brentfield. The Deputy Mayor of Brent, Orleen Hylton, joined us for a celebration assembly where the school was presented with a very special award.
Ms Hylton was joined in school by our Chair of Governors, Penny Witham and Deputy Chair of Governors, Ann John.
Since 2021, Brentfield have been working with OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) to help develop our play spaces and playtimes for our children.
We believe play and learning go hand-in-hand. Playtime takes up 20% of a child’s school day and provides opportunities for children to learn all the things that cannot be taught: socialisation, co-operation, coordination, resilience, creativity, imagination and negotiation. This is why we are constantly striving to improve our play offer at Brentfield Primary School. The skills that our children learn through play feed directly into our BRAVE Values (Belonging, Responsibility, Aspirations, Valuing diversity and Empowerment).
The OPAL programme has supported us to widen play opportunities for the children. The children have the opportunity to engage in play through the following areas: mud kitchens, bikes, sand pits, art area, forest area, dressing up and quieter areas so all children can find a safe place for themselves. Providing the breadth of opportunities for play has resulted in our children being more active, more creative, healthier and happier.
As part of our work with OPAL, we are proud to announce that we have been awarded a PLATINUM standard quality mark for our play provision. We are one of only a few schools in London to have achieved this award and are very proud of the whole team who worked tirelessly to improve playtimes for the children in our school.
