Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage
‘Pupils are well cared for and safe at this welcoming school’– Ofsted 2022
At Brentfield Primary School, we believe that a robust and successful early education is the foundation all pupils need to become successful global citizens, ready for a world of tomorrow.
We intend to prepare our children for the demands of the years ahead by enabling them to become successful, well-motivated, inquisitive and independent learners who foster a passion for lifelong learning.
We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life to ensure that they are able to achieve their full potential. Through our curriculum, we aim to provide our pupils with both academic and cultural enhancement opportunities to engage their inquisitive minds.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is progressive and builds on our pupils’ prior knowledge, with reading and oracy at its heart.
‘Pupils’ wider development is a strength of this school‘ – Ofsted 2022
‘Pupils are enthusiastic about reading. Teachers support children to develop a love of books’ – Ofsted 2022
We engage the children in a creative curriculum that is tailored to their needs and reflects the world and community in which they live. We encourage our pupils to be active learners who use play as an opportunity to investigate and explore allowing them to think creatively and critically, developing their own strategies and ideas.
We believe that childhood should be an enquiring, investigative and happy time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for knowledge. We intend that when our pupils reach the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage, they will have developed the essential knowledge and skills they require for the next stage of their learning and to become creators of their own destiny. ‘In early years, staff understand how the curriculum provides firm foundations for future learning’ – Ofsted 2022
We are committed to providing a caring and stimulating environment where every child can grow and thrive. The provision has been designed to reflect real experiences and create a sense of curiosity. Sometimes adults join in to sensitively support and extend children’s learning. Sometimes time and space is made available for children to create their own play. ‘Adult engagement is strong; open-ended questioning, supports natural inquisitiveness’ – Neil Farmer, Early Years Consultant and Author – May 2022
‘The learning environments in the Early Years Foundation Stage are enabling and rich’ – Neil Farmer, Early Years Consultant and Author – May 2022
Children’s behaviour for learning is outstanding. They display the Characteristics of Effective Learning and are afforded the opportunity to show what they know and can do throughout the environment’ – Neil Farmer, Early Years Consultant and Author – May 2022
