Online Safety

Online safety, previously known as e-Safety, is an important part of keeping children safe at Brentfield Primary School. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any Online Safety incidents are recorded and managed in accordance with our Online policy.

In our school Online Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online. However we can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the Online Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

It’s essential to be realistic – banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is essential.

‘Childnet International’, is a non-profit organisation working with others, to help make the internet a great and safe place for children.

NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational program which provides age-appropriate resources to help teach children how to be safer on- and offline. The program is designed for children ages 5-17, parents and guardians, and educators. It includes resources such as videos, games, activity cards, and presentations.

Their goals are to:   

Educate children on how to recognize potential Internet risks

Engage children and adults in a two-way conversation about on- and offline risks

Empower children to help prevent themselves from being exploited and to report victimization to a trusted adult
